Show love in your catâs language
1. Slow blinking
How cats do it: Slow blinking is the feline equivalent of a “kiss”âtheir gentlest way to express love.
You can do: When your cat looks at you, blink slowly like they do. Theyâll understand it as a sign of trust and affection.
2. Brushing their fur
How cats do it: Cats only lick the fur of those theyâre deeply close to, as a way to share intimacy and warmth.
You can do: Gently brush your catâs fur. This mimics their “licking” behavior and makes them feel cared for.
3. Mimicking their body language
How cats do it: Cats express emotions through body curves, head tilts, or tail movements. Being themselves shows comfort and trust.
You can do: When your cat approaches, bend down and nuzzle them with your head, just like they do. Or stretch like they do when they yawn to respond.
4. Nudging them with your head
How cats do it: Cats rub their heads against you to leave pheromones, showing closeness and love.
You can do: When your cat is near, gently nudge their head or neck with your head or cheek. This tells them youâre returning the affection in their own way.
5. Meowing back at them
How cats do it: “Meowing” is a sound cats developed specifically for humans. Soft meows mean trust and closeness, especially when they want to signal safety around you.
You can do: When your cat meows at you, meow back! Imitate their tone to build communication and trust.
6. Playing chase games
How cats do it: Chase games spark their interest, release energy, and bring satisfaction. Cats usually invite favorite companions to play.
You can do: As a top “playmate,” use a wand toy or laser pointer to mimic small animalsâ movements and invite them to chase.
